Privacy Policy — Tyre Dispatch
How we collect, use, and protect your personal information. Your privacy matters to us — this policy explains exactly what we do with your data and your rights under New Zealand law.
The Short Version
Before the full legal text — here's the plain-English summary of how we handle your data:
Full Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 30 May 2025 · Last Updated: 26 February 2026
At Tyre Dispatch (operated by Traction Tyres Ltd), your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our website (tyredispatch.co.nz) or services. 2. Purpose of Collection
We collect your information to:
- Process and fulfill orders, including delivery and fitting bookings
- Provide customer service and respond to enquiries

- Comply with legal, regulatory, and accounting obligations
- Communicate service updates, order status, and promotions (only if you opt in)
- Send transactional SMS notifications where relevant (e.g. courier tracking updates, fitting appointment confirmations via SimplyBook.me). These are service messages, not marketing — you receive them as part of the order or booking process
- Generate anonymised, aggregated insights (e.g. which tyre sizes are most popular in which regions)

4. Payment Security
All payments are processed through PCI-DSS compliant payment providers including Shopify Payments, Afterpay, and Zip. We never store your full credit card number, CVV, or banking details on our servers. Payment information is encrypted in transit and handled entirely by our payment processors.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to safeguard your information using:
- Secure server environments with SSL/TLS encryption across our entire website
- Restricted access for authorised personnel only
- Regular data backups and system monitoring
- Secure, trusted third-party platforms (Shopify, Cloudflare)
However, no transmission over the internet is completely secure. You use our services at your own risk, and we encourage strong password practices and timely updates to your information.
6. Your Rights Under NZ Privacy Law
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct any incorrect or outdated information
- Request deletion of your data, subject to legal retention obligations (e.g. tax records)
- Withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 14 below. We will respond within 20 working days as required by the Privacy Act.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz or call 0800 803 909.
7. Interactive Tools & Your Data
Tyre Dispatch offers a range of free online tools. Here's how each handles your data:
Tools That Request Information But Don't Store It
Several of our tools ask you to enter details — such as your location, vehicle type, or tyre size — to generate personalised results. This information is used in real time to produce your result and is not saved, stored, or linked to you in any way. Once you close the page, the data is gone.
These tools include:
- Driver Safety Report — asks for your location to provide localised weather, road condition, and driving safety data. Your location is not stored or tracked.
- Tyre Pressure Calculator — asks for vehicle and tyre details. Not stored.
- Braking Distance Calculator — asks for speed, conditions, and tyre type. Not stored.
- Tyre Size Calculator — asks for tyre dimensions. Not stored.
- WOF Tyre Compatibility Checker — asks for vehicle and tyre details. Not stored.
AI Tyre Scanner & Camera Access
Our AI Tyre Scanner uses your device's camera to photograph your tyre and identify the size, brand, and specifications. Important points:
- The scanner requests access to your device camera — you must grant permission before it activates, and you can revoke this at any time through your device settings.
- We do not save, store, or retain the images you scan. Images are processed in real time to extract tyre information and are not kept in any database.
- To identify your tyre, scanned images are transmitted to third-party AI services (including Google Vision API, OpenAI, and Anthropic Claude) for analysis. These services process the image and return tyre identification data. Images are sent securely via encrypted connections and are subject to each provider's data handling policies. We do not control how these providers handle data after processing — see Google Cloud, OpenAI, and Anthropic privacy policies for details.
- No account or login is required to use the scanner.
Voluntary Data Contributions
Some of our tools — such as the tyre scanner and our tyre database — occasionally offer you the option to help us improve our data by uploading images or confirming tyre details. This is entirely voluntary and works as follows:
- You will always be clearly asked at the time whether you wish to contribute.
- Nothing is uploaded or shared without your explicit action and consent.
- Contributions that help improve our database may be credited to you (e.g. acknowledgement as a data contributor) — only if you agree.
- You can decline with no impact on the tool's functionality.
Order History & Account Data
If you have placed orders with us, we retain your order history (items purchased, dates, delivery details) as part of normal e-commerce operations and for tax compliance. This data is accessible through your Shopify customer account and can be requested or deleted by contacting us — subject to legal retention obligations (see Section 12).
8. Cookies and Website Analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep your shopping cart active between pages
- Remember your preferences (e.g. recently viewed products)
- Collect anonymous usage statistics via Google Analytics
- Enable third-party services like Afterpay messaging and Judge.me reviews
You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some website functionality (e.g. your cart may not persist between visits).
9. Third-Party Links & Platforms
Our website contains links to third-party websites and services — including Google Maps, Trade Me, Afterpay, Judge.me, and various external resources referenced in our guides. Once you leave our website by following an external link, you are subject to that third party's own privacy policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of external websites.
If you purchase from us via Trade Me, your transaction is also subject to Trade Me's privacy policy. We receive your buyer details (name, address, contact information) through Trade Me as part of the order fulfillment process.
10. Children's Privacy
Our website and services are not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 16 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
11. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that is likely to cause serious harm to affected individuals, we will:
- Notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as practicable, as required under the Privacy Act 2020
- Notify affected individuals directly, providing details of the breach and steps they can take to protect themselves
- Take immediate steps to contain the breach and prevent further unauthorised access
12. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, or as required by law. Specifically:
- Order and transaction records: retained for 7 years (NZ tax obligations)
- Customer account data: retained while your account is active, deleted upon request
- Marketing preferences: updated immediately when you opt out
- Website analytics: anonymised data retained indefinitely; identifiable data purged regularly
13. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most current version will always be posted on this page with the updated effective date. Material changes will be communicated via our website or by email where appropriate.
